Team Meerendal enjoyed a successful day in various categories during the Prologue of the 2015 Absa Cape Epic. The prologue route took the riders along scenic routes through Table Mountain National Park.
The highlights of the day include Milena Landtwing and Hielke Elferink of “Team Meerendal Wheeler Cannondale” getting a spot on the podium after finishing 3rd in the Women’s Category. Esther Süss and Alice Pirard of “Team Meerendal Wheeler” finished in fourth to top off an all-round great performance for the Women’s teams.
Pre-race favourites Bärti Bucher and Heinz Zörweg finished first in the Grand Masters Category to set the tone for their title challenge in the coming week.
Laura Turpijn and Daniel Gathof of “Team Meerendal Rocky Mountain 2” also had a great result by finishing 5th in the Mixed Category.
With the Prologue only being the start of the race it is expected that the rest of the Team Meerendal riders will challenge for podium spots over the coming days.
Stage 1 on Monday 16 March will see Team Meerendal travel to Oak Valley Wine Estate in Elgin, to tackle 113km of riding and 2800m of climbing which is sure to be a test of endurance and nerves.
