5 Valentine’s Day DIY Craft Inspiration Ideas

Feb 09, 2015

Oh yes, you guessed it… Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and the month of love is in full swing!

So here’s a little DIY Craft Inspiration for this week of love; challenge yourself beyond the romantic weekend away or candle-lit dinner

1. Valentine’s Painted Love Messages

So why not make your declaration of love – to that special person in your life – an enduring and decorative one: Turn it into something he/she can put on a wall and which will serve as a constant reminder of you for them (e.g. see above pic).

All you need is some discarded wood panels, lettering stencils that you can pick up from any craft store, a tin of paint, and 1-2 hours to create these effective and simple decorative pieces.

2. Blackboard Mug-Love

One of my favourite Plascon products is our Schoolboard (“blackboard”) Paint, and seeing this little gift idea (above) made me smile… How sweet would it be to bring your beloved a “cuppa joe” on Valentine’s Day with a handwritten note on it? In fact you could bring him/her a cuppa every morning, with a new message of love even after Valentine’s Day.

To make this gift idea you’ll need a blank white mug, some masking tape to seal the rim of the mug where you’ll be sipping from, some primer, and the backboard paint. I would also recommend applying a coat of primer to the mug before applying the blackboard paint to the mug. The only downside to this idea is that you can’t stick these gifts in the dishwasher!

(And while you’re at it, why don’t you serve up your blackboard mug on a specially prepared breakfast tray for your special one – that’s a rather nice way to be woken up.)

3. Paint Swatch Card Swing Tickets

This idea I liked as an add-on to a Valentine’s hamper – perhaps you’re the sort of person who likes to give lots of little and big treats to the special someone in your life, in which case this easy-peasy card idea is perfect.

All you need is a selection of pink and red paint swatch cards, some blank paper for the backing of the swatch cards, a heart-shaped paper punch, and a few lengths of colour satin ribbon. A nice idea is to write a cryptic message/clue on the back of each swing to get your beloved guessing about the present inside!

4. Valentine’s Recyclable Shopper

If your partner is a budding eco-warrior, he/she will probably love this gift too… You can purchase these bags here and then all you’ll require is some red fabric paint, a heart stencil, and a rubber-ended pencil to recreate this effect above.

5. Valentine’s Day Handmade Cards

Last but not least is the handmade gift card; pen your beloved a handwritten message, poem or letter in a card you’ve made for them (there are so many ideas on Pinterest for how to create these). In this digital-technological age where we’ve lapsed into high-speed phone comms, it’s a real treat to receive a card that can be felt, touched and displayed somewhere as a keepsake… Something to show the children and grandchildren one day
