The colour green and its many shades – from rich emerald greens to dark dramatic greens, acidy lime greens and yellowish grass greens – have rightfully been in the limelight for some time now.

Following on from the current Pantone Colour of the Year, Greeneryfollow – which is a yellowish grassy green – comes this fantastic shade of green, Evening Grass G5-E1-4. We think there is something quite beautiful about this subdued, moody hue. Even its name has a certain allure. Its understated appeal makes it a versatile colour that can be used in many different settings, from an accent colour to a space that is covered in it.

Plascon SPACES magazine has even dedicated a cover to Evening Grass and its family of colours. You will find a fantastic spread on these in the ‘What’s hot’ section in the current issuefollow.

While researching and delving deeper into this colour, I could see why it is becoming progressively more popular… It has such a gentle yet moody effect.

This is where it sits in the colour card (see below). Two other favourites of mine are Ridge G5-E1-3 and Monsoon Lagoon G5-E1-1.

Soft but strong, it can hold its own and creates a moody but elegant backdrop when painted on a wall:

It’s also the perfect background for a room with plants on display. See the beautiful layer effect it creates in this setting:

The colour also works very well with strong, bright colours – for example when an acid yellow or a lime green accent is set against it:

Or with soft, fashiony pinks and nudes (see below). Also try with contrasting natural tones, like natural woods, rough earthenware and dirty coppers.

Both unique and versatile, Evening Grass can translate into most environments and is a colour that has longevity.
