Yesterday evening we attended the preview of the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair
(Sanlam HmC) in Hyde Park. If you are in Johannesburg this weekend, the go-to place is definitely the Hyde Park Corner Rooftop. Whether you take the family during the day, or go for a night out with friends, you will have fun either way.

Curated by Tapiwa Matsinde, this contemporary art fair is a showcase of the rich craft heritages on our continent. Some of the artisans at the Sanlam HmC are from Dakar, Morocco, Kenya and Nigeria. If you are a foodie, you most definitely will want to visit and browse through the delectable treats on offer.
Artlogic is the force behind executing this fair brilliantly!
We loved the La Fede stand painted with some of our 2018 Plascon Colour Forecast colours: Rooibos, Storm Cloud and Julianne Jade. Our beautiful Neutral of the Year, Amadeus, is also a feature wall where you can take a selfie with the gorgeous big man, Miles, on the stand. Tag your selfie on Instagram using @Lafede_designs and #SanlamHmC and #2018PlasconColourForecast.

Two other exhibitors stood out for me; one being Goet & CLAY / LIBERTY and the other is CityMapMats by Fabrica.

In this one-time collaboration between Goet and CLAY / LIBERTY, we see the wonderful marriage between beautifully crafted furniture and a range of ceramics. This was an absolute stand-out for me.
Last feature for today – as I don’t want to show you too much and you need to go experience this for yourself – is the gorgeous creations by Fabrica called Citymapsmats.

Citymapmats are inspired by the architecture of cityscapes in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The facades of the buildings and windows are translated into patterns which are woven into the rugs, forming road maps of these urban areas. The rugs are hand tufted and 100% wool. See www.fabrica.co.za for more details.
I will leave you to load up the kids, get in the car and make your way to Hyde Park Corner. Tickets are available from Webtickets. If you book online it is only R120-00. It will most certainly be your most beautiful and inspiring Friday the 13th for the year.
