Jul 18, 2017

Ombre

If you thought the ombré technique was reserved for the hairdresser, think again.

YOU NEED

  • Plascon Double Velvet Ravine (EC 62) 1 litre
  • Plascon Polvin Light Blue Green (G6-A2-2) 1 litre
  • Plascon Polvin Aqua Pool (G6-A1-4) 1 litre
  • acrylic scumble glaze
  • Lay-on brush
  • Mutton cloth

TIME NEEDED: 2 hours

BEFORE YOU START:

Prepare the walls and paint two coats of Plascon Double Velvet Ravine as a base. Mix the glazes as follows: Glaze 1: 60% Aqua Pool, 30% scumble glaze and 10% water. Glaze 2: 60% Light Blue Green, 30% scumble glaze and 10% water.

STEP 1:

Starting at the top right-hand corner of the wall and working in an area of approximately one square metre at a time, lay on the darker glaze (glaze 1) in a random crisscross manner.

STEP 2:

Soften the brush marks with a lighter crisscross motion using the same brush or another clean brush. For an even softer look, you can blend using mutton cloth whilst the paint is still wet.

STEP 3:

As you work down the wall, start adding the lighter glaze (glaze 2), making sure you keep a wet edge so that you can blend the colours well. Fade out into the base colour approximately halfway down the wall.
