Create a textured focal wall

Jun 08, 2016

Create textural interest on a focal wall with this quick-and-easy technique using two shades from Plascon and a DIY tool made of – wait for it – cardboard.

Texture01-830x1024

YOU NEED

Paint: Plascon Cashmere in Crete Shore (EC 52) and Metallic Paint in Silver (DRM 1). Texture02

Other: Two medium-sized paintbrushes, a stiff, thick piece of cardboard, a pair of scissors and painter’s tape.

TIME NEEDED

Half a day

THE PREP

Ensure that your wall is smooth, clean and dry and lay down a dropcloth. Cut “teeth” into the piece of cardboard, making sure not to cut too deep as this will make the teeth less sturdy.

Texture03
STEP 1: Apply one coat of Crete Shore to the wall in vertical strokes.
Texture04
STEP 2: Once the first coat is dry, vertically mask off manageable sections to help keep your edges neat

Texture05
STEP 3: Apply one coat of the silver paint, slightly diluted with water, working the paint quickly and evenly.

Texture06
STEP 4: Use the cardboard and “comb” the paint, applying a bit of pressure, working from top to bottom.

Texture07
STEP 5: When the silver paint is dry, remove the tape, apply tape to a new section and repeat the process – cleaning the cardboard between sections.
